Privacy policy
Last updated 13 August 2026.
Nest Chef is a recipe and meal planning service. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can remove it. It covers the Nest Chef website and the Nest Chef Android app, which are the same service.
What we collect
We collect only what the service needs in order to work. We do not collect payment details or location data, we do not use advertising or analytics identifiers, and we do not run any analytics or tracking service.
- Account details. Your first name, last name, display name, email address, and the date you accepted the terms of use. Your password is stored only as a secure hash, never as plain text.
- Content you create. Your recipes, including their ingredients, instructions, categories, and any photo you upload, along with your meal plans and your votes on planned dishes.
- Household information. The household you belong to, the invitations you send and receive, and a record of how each invitation was answered.
- Notification settings. The channel and frequency you choose for each category of notification, and the notifications generated for you.
- Device notification tokens. If you allow notifications in the Android app, your device gives us a push token so notifications can reach it. The token identifies that app installation and is stored against your account.
- A sign-in cookie. When you sign in we store a session cookie on your device so that you stay signed in. It is needed for the service to work and is not used for tracking or advertising.
- Technical logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard request logs, including IP addresses, in order to serve the service and protect it from abuse.
How we use your information
- To create your account and sign you in.
- To store your recipes and meal plans and show them to the other members of your household.
- To send the notifications you have asked for, by email or push, according to your settings.
- To send account emails, such as a password reset. These are needed to operate your account, so they are always sent by email and cannot be turned off.
- To check that a new sign-up comes from a person rather than an automated script.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. A small number of service providers process it on our behalf, each receiving only what it needs to do its job.
- Vercel hosts the service and stores the recipe photos you upload.
- Our database provider stores the information described above.
- Resend delivers our emails, such as password resets, household invitations, and notification digests.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers push notifications to the Android app.
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks the sign-up form for automated abuse.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
What other people can see
A recipe you mark as public is visible to everyone, including visitors who are not signed in, and your display name is shown alongside it. A recipe you keep private is visible only to you and the members of your household; neither its link nor its photo opens for anybody else. Everyone in your household can see the household meal plan and the votes on it. Your email address is shown to the other person in a household invitation you send or receive, so that each side can tell who the invitation is with; it is not shown anywhere else.
How long we keep it
- Your account details and recipes are kept for as long as your account exists.
- Meal plan entries are removed automatically once their date has passed.
- A device notification token is removed after 60 days without use, or as soon as the device reports that it is no longer valid.
- Photos that are no longer attached to a recipe are deleted automatically.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself at any time, from my settings in the app. Deleting your account erases your personal details and your private content and cannot be undone. The page below sets out the steps and exactly what is removed and what is kept.
Delete accountChildren
Nest Chef is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top of it.
